Signward vs Auth0

An honest comparison for small teams, with June 2026 list prices. Auth0 is an excellent product — this page is about when its pricing model stops making sense for a team under 500 users, and what the EU-native alternative costs instead

When Auth0 is the right call

  • You fit in the free tier (up to 25,000 MAUs) and don't need enterprise SSO, custom branding, or guaranteed support
  • You expect to grow past a few hundred users — Auth0 scales to millions
  • You need its huge integration marketplace or enterprise compliance programs

When Signward fits better

  • You're a small team (5–500 users) and want a bill you can predict to the cent
  • You need enterprise SSO without the $150–800/month "SSO tax"
  • Your users' identity data must stay in the EU — GDPR, DPA, and EU hosting by default, not as an add-on
  • You want passkeys, custom domain, and AI anomaly detection in every plan

We cap tenants at 500 users on purpose — small teams are the product, not the on-ramp to an enterprise sales call. If you'll outgrow that, Auth0 is genuinely the better choice

The pricing model is the real difference

Auth0 bills by monthly active users (MAUs), so the bill moves with traffic. Signward bills a flat price per user — your user count times the plan price, nothing else

Signward Auth0
Pricing model Flat per-user — €3 / €4 / €5 per user per month (min. 5 users) MAU-based — Free (25k MAUs), B2C from $35/mo, B2B from $150/mo, plus ~$0.07/MAU overage
Enterprise SSO Every plan, Starter included B2B plans only — from $150/mo (3 connections) or $800/mo (5 connections)
Custom domain Every plan Paid plans only
Passkeys (WebAuthn) Every plan, no per-feature upcharge Available
MFA TOTP + email + backup codes in every plan OTP on lower tiers; advanced MFA on higher tiers
EU data residency Always — hosted on Microsoft Azure (EU), identity data never leaves the EU EU region selectable, but Auth0 is a US-owned company (Okta) subject to the US CLOUD Act
GDPR tooling Consent management, data export, tenant deletion, signed DPA — built in DPA available; tooling varies by plan
Security analytics AI anomaly detection on every login + plain-language weekly digest Attack protection on paid tiers
Scale ceiling 500 users per tenant — by design Millions of users
Lock-in Standard OIDC / OAuth 2.0 — migrate in or out anytime; MIT-licensed SDKs Standard OIDC / OAuth 2.0

Switching takes about 30 minutes

  1. Create your tenant — the signup wizard provisions a branded login portal, dashboard, and API key in about 5 minutes
  2. Point your app at Signward — install the .NET, Python, JavaScript, or PHP SDK, or use any standard OIDC library; the endpoints are standard discovery / authorize / token / userinfo
  3. Bring your users over — invite them by email; on first sign-in they set a password or, better, a passkey. We're honest here: there is no silent password import from Auth0 yet, so plan for a re-enrollment step
  4. Flip the switch — you can run both providers side by side during the transition, since both speak plain OIDC

Frequently asked questions

It depends, and we'd rather tell you straight. If you fit in Auth0's free tier and don't need enterprise SSO, custom branding, or guaranteed support, Auth0 free wins — use it. The math flips the moment you need a paid feature: enterprise SSO on Auth0 starts at $150/month (B2B Essentials, 3 connections), while a 25-person team on Signward Standard pays a flat €100/month with SSO, passkeys, and a custom domain already included

Yes — both products speak standard OIDC / OAuth 2.0, so the application-side change is swapping the authority URL and client credentials, typically under 30 minutes with our SDKs (.NET, Python, JavaScript, PHP). User accounts are re-enrolled by email invitation: there is no automated password import from Auth0 yet, so users set a new password or passkey on first sign-in. You can run both providers in parallel during the cutover

Auth0 lets you select an EU data region, but the company behind it (Okta, Inc.) is US-owned, which keeps it in scope of the US CLOUD Act regardless of where the servers sit. Signward is built and operated in the EU, hosted on Microsoft Azure's EU regions, with a GDPR-native stack: signed DPA, consent management, data export, and full tenant deletion. Your users' identity data never leaves the EU

We cap tenants at 500 users by design, there is no SCIM directory sync, and we don't carry the enterprise compliance program portfolio Auth0 does. That's the trade: we build for small teams only, which is why SSO, passkeys, and custom domains fit in every plan instead of behind an enterprise gate. If you need millions of users or SCIM, Auth0 or another enterprise IdP is the right tool

The industry habit of locking single sign-on — letting users log in with their company Google or Microsoft account, or federating with a customer's identity provider — behind expensive upper tiers. On Auth0, enterprise SSO starts at $150/month and the connection count is capped per tier. Signward includes SSO in every plan, Starter included, because for small teams SSO is table stakes, not an enterprise feature
